Inhalt | Course Description: The course will be organized around the following question: - What does it mean to lead with integrity and what is required? - What do we owe morally to others in a corporate context? - What inclines us to follow some people but not others? - What do corporate leaders owe to society? - What does it take to incline teams, business units, or entire firms to perform ethically? In answering these questions, a large body of knowledge will be brought to bear: from the normative tradition of philosophical ethics to recent discoveries in psychology and neuroscience. Most of it will be introduced in the classroom: through lectures, discussions, and the examination of cases. |
Lernziele | Primary Course Objectives: This (or any) course cannot control whether students behave ethically or lead honorably. What it can do is prepare them to make the most of their opportunities and to conduct their affairs with full knowledge of the consequences. Specifically, the course is designed to impart the following: - Answers to the above questions; - Heightened awareness of the students’ ethical predispositions and vulnerabilities; - Understanding of the social footprint of a corporate enterprise and the leadership imperative it entails; and - An understanding of business that harmonizes the profit motive with the demands of morality and the expectations of society. |
Bemerkungen | Comments: This course is part of the Summer School, which offers the opportunity to learn more about Law, Business and Economic Policy within an interdisciplinary and intercultural perspective. |
