Inhalt | This course takes an approach slightly different from the usual seminars in literature, and in that regard experimental. The focus usually has to be academic, on learning to analyse texts in terms of their historical and formal characteristics and to develop relevant research questions. While this remains important, this course will take a more personal approach, asking among other things what it was that brought us to literature in the first place. Our focus will therefore be on reader response, on finding ways to articulate emotional responses, and the impact a text has had on us personally in a certain phase of our lives. What have these texts have made us feel, or see? This will hopefully lead to a more general assessment of the psychological and social importance of (fictional) literature and of the place of literature in society. To get started, I have chosen a number of texts that have been important to me, and in the latter part of the course, students will get to present their own choice. Let us see where this journey will take us. |
