53992-01 - Seminar: Einführung in die Textanalyse mit R 3 CP

Semester spring semester 2019
Course frequency Once only
Lecturers Gerhard Lauer (gerhard.lauer@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content R is a powerful tool to do statistics and text analysis. Understanding the vocabulary used in texts, the syntactic structure, or to compare large sets of texts, R is a good choice to do the analysis. However, R has a steep learning curve. To learn the first steps, the seminar will introduce anyone without prior knowledge into learning R from the scratch, from installation to the details of text analysis.
The seminar will be taught together with Freiburg within the EUCOR framework and will be therefore taught in blocs.
Learning objectives The course is an introduction into the use of R for doing statistics and text analysis.
Comments The exact dates of the block seminar will follow.

Admission requirements No prior knowledge of R is necessary, however, a profound curiosity to learn the scripting language R is welcome. Be aware the learning curve might be steep.
