57416-01 - Seminar: Bayesian Modeling Advanced 1 CP

Semester spring semester 2021
Course frequency Irregular
Lecturers Mariela Elena Jaffé (mariela.jaffe@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content Leitung: Stefan Radev (University of Heidelberg).

In this workshop, we will extend our introduction to Bayesian inference with a principled workflow for developing own Bayesian pipelines for estimating complex models. We will focus on parameter estimation of evidence accumulator models with Stan and discuss limitations of standard Bayesian parameter estimation when applied to complex (and intractable models). We will then introduce simulation-based inference as a powerful and general paradigm for performing parameter estimation on models with intractable or unknown likelihood function. We will illustrate the basic principles of simulation-based inference on simple toy models and then return to the estimation of intractable evidence accumulator models (e.g., LCA, FFI). Participants will then be invited to implement their own version of an evidence accumulator model for a task of choice and apply a simulation-based inference pipeline to the model. Finally, we will conclude with the outlook and potential vistas for future research.
