Content | Global competition and digitalization posit high demands with respect to flexibility on both workers and firms. At the same time, the competition for, attraction, and retention of human capital in an aging society is an immanent challenge for many firms. Moreover, anecdotal evidence suggests that employee preferences appear to change such that in particular the highly skilled, young workers increasingly seek jobs that allow for individualism and self-fulfillment, but also flexibility with respect to their private lives. |
Learning objectives | The goal of this course is to address these issues by presenting and discussing modern HR policies and labor market developments that increase flexibility for both firms and employees by, for instance, utilizing the opportunities presented by recent developments in information and communication technology. Hence, this course aims to discuss several such policies and developments and thereby to elicit their potential benefits and detrimental effects on both parties involved, but also to analyze whether these policies can contribute to aligning the interests of employers and employees. |
