Content Description: This course has been designed to help students improve their scientific writing skills and communicate research to different audiences (other researchers, non-specialists, etc.). Through a combination of lectures, manuscript clinics, readings and practical written exercises, the course focuses on how to write effectively, concisely and clearly, and take students through the steps of preparing a scientific manuscript.

Content:
Intro to good writing – what is scientific writing?
Word choice
Sentence structure and punctuation
Paragraphs and document organisation
Putting it together: Scientific manuscripts (methods, results, tables and figures)
Putting it together: Scientific manuscripts (abstracts, introduction , literature, discussion)
Synthesising and contextualising research findings for different audiences
Referencing and avoiding plagiarism
Overview of proposal writing
Learning objectives Upon completion of the course, students should be able to write effectively, concisely, and clearly, and prepare an actual scientific manuscript. Furthermore, they will be able to translate knowledge produced through research into understandable, accessible and relevant evidence that can be used by decision-makers for different purposes.
