55231-01 - Course: Practical Introduction to Documentary Filmmaking 3 CP

Content This is an intensive course that introduces students to the study and practice of documentary filmmaking from concept to production and post-production. It teaches students to apply the basic principles and tools of documentary film making to research and project needs. The course explores in an inter-disciplinary manner innovative and accessible visual technologies as tools for urban research. Through readings, screenings, discussion and regular submission of original documentary filmmaking projects students will work on different areas of investigation: urban studies, architecture, spatial politics and social justice, human rights and conflict studies, art and activism.

Learning objectives Students will become familiar with the ideas, materials and technical skills needed for creative expression in documentary film-making. Participants will also learn how to use images in conjunction with sound, text and narrative structure as a basis for communicating ideas on film in the wider research area of urban studies.

 

Admission requirements This course is limited to 12 students. Preference will be given to MA Critical Urbanisms Students.
