Content | This course offers an introduction to the characteristic morphological and reproductive traits of the largest angiosperm plant Family, the Orchidaceae. The lectures also include ecological and evolutionary aspects, with a discussion on pollination mechanisms, mimicry and speciation. Furthermore, students learn how to use a botanical key to identify Swiss orchid species. Lectures will be combined with practicals making use of the living orchid collection of the Basel University Botanical Garden.
