Content | This is the core lecture on the methods used in epidemiological research, with the main focus on applications in infectious disease epidemiology. The lecture focuses on the definition and meaning of risk factors, the measurement of health status, and the design of studies to relate the two. The lecture assumes some background in epidemiology, either from BSc studies and/or from the “Epidemiological concepts” lecture. In addition to lectures, the students carry out individual practical exercises alone and in group work and design and implement a field project in project teams. |
Learning objectives | To familiarize with various study designs, realities of research project implementation, and the practicalities of data collection, evaluation and interpretation in epidemiology; to be able to design and apply appropriate tools and data analysis plans for epidemiological studies. |
