Content | Historically, Basel has been a hotspot for Africa related research, above all in the field of healthcare and medicine. This research seminar traces some of the links between Basel-based institutions and actors with the African continent in the field of health, such as the Basel Mission, the pharmaceutical industry, and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH). The focus of this seminar is on archival research and the subsequent dissemination and publication of findings. We will start by reading up on Basel’s medical links to Africa, followed by a phase of intensive archival work. Students will discuss their findings in class and contextualize them with further research literature. Towards the end of the course, we will organize a small conference and invite doctoral and postdoctoral researchers who work on related topics to give feedback on students’ research. As a result, each student will publish his or her findings in the form of a short online article. |
