| Content | A relatively small proportion of the population suffers from mood disorders in the clinical sense. Yet, considering depression as a continuum extends the range of individuals who are affected by depressive symptoms at any given time. In this seminar we will mostly rely on a dimensional approach and examine how occupational factors, notably, can affect scores on instruments designed to assess depression and more generally emotions and wellbeing. Following a general introduction, students will present selected papers which will focus on theoretical concepts relating to stress and depression, as well empirical studies relating the characteristics of work to mental health outcomes, and individual factors (e.g., perfectionism, neuroticism) that can accentuate the impact of work stressors on depression and wellbeing will also be presented. The general approach of the seminar is to integrate the discussed findings and theoretical constructs through discussions. |
