60890-01 - Practical course: Resisting (Neo)colonialism: Palestine and the United States 3 CP

Semester spring semester 2021
Course frequency Once only
Lecturers Saad Amira (saad.amira@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content This course provides an overview on the anti-colonial nexus between 'black power' and the question of Palestine from the late 1960’s onwards. The course will ground students in the revolutionary encounters that drew Palestinian resistance closer to the African American anti-colonial quest for freedom. This learning experience will provide students with critical perspectives on the intersectionality between these anti-colonial and anti-racial struggles, and the ways that these struggles have borrowed, related to and critiqued discourses and practices from one another. Examining materials from the heyday of revolutionary action until the present day, student engagement will include relying on a plethora of Arabic and English sources in addition to firsthand experiences and accounts of past and present activists.
Comments This exercise will only take place online, over the first 4 weeks of the semester on Mondays & Thursdays from 9:00AM - 12:00PM.
