67294-01 - Practical course: Changing Theory: Concepts from the Global South (hgg. Dilip Menon, 2022) 3 CP

Semester spring semester 2023
Course frequency Once only
Lecturers Andreas Heuser (andreas.heuser@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content This is a reading seminar: We will be reading and discussing some chapters of a most recent publication, edited by D. Menon (2022). These are theoretical frames that are built up in global South contexts, and mostly not being translated into Western concepts. Rather, they are claiming genuine epistemologies emanating in diverse discursive fields such as South Africa, China, Pakistan or India, just to name but a few. There will be a selection of such concepts according to students' priorities. Thus, it is very important to be present in the FIRST seminar meeting (in February, for the selection of texts!). In each seminar meeting, we will be introduced to one of these global South terms. Participants will have to read these chapters well prepared for joint discussion.
Learning objectives Approaching theories from the Global South.
Reading/discussing of selected chapters (in English).
Possibly: relating selected concepts to own research approaches / epistemologies.
