10160-01 - Lecture: Environmental and Resource Economics 6 CP

Content Economic and ethical foundations of environmental policy, external effects, policy instruments and their effects, measurement of external effects, economics of exhaustible resources, economics of renewable resources, economics of climate change.
Learning objectives After taking this course you will know how to analyse environmental policy using the tools of economics. You will know economic concepts for understanding the causes of environmental degradation and for setting the objectives of environmental policy. You will be able to apply microeconomic theory to analyze the mechanisms via which different policy instruments influence the environmental behavior of firms. At the example of exhaustible and renewable resources, you will have learned how to analyze cases where present actions have long-lasting environmental consequences.

Admission requirements Students should either have passed 10130 (Einführung in die VWL) or 48981 (Intensive Introduction to Intermediate Economics). If you have done 10130, it is recommended (but not required) to also do intermediate microeconomics (10134) before starting environmental and resource economics.
Course application Registration: Please enrol in MOnA. EUCOR-Students and students of other Swiss Universities have to enrol at the students administration office (studseksupport1@unibas.ch) within the official enrolment period. Enrolment = Registration for the exam!
