| Inhalt | The course will focus on the intellectual discourses and debates in Polish-Russian-Ukrainian triangle. Its idea is to look deeper not only at Ukrainian, but Polish and Russian perceptions and concepts of Ukraine presented in the fields of public debate about history and memory, literature discourses, language politics, cinema. One of the aims is to analyze the interrelations, competitions and mutual influences of Russian, Polish and Ukrainian visions of the region called “Central Europe” or “the Russian world”. Starting with the introductory lectures designed as entangled narrative I would like to invite you to the comparative and discourse analysis of various types of texts: from internet blogs to official state documents and from scholar publications to poetry. We will also watch and discuss two recent features – Russian and Polish – on the Ukrainian Cossack past (Taras Bul`ba and With Fire and Sword) and two Ukrainian documentaries made by the same director Serhii Bukovsky – one on the Holocaust (Spell Your Name) and the other on the Great Famine 1932-33 (The Living). The list of the main topics: Ukraine as an object in the narratives of “Central Europe” Polish vision of Ukrainian history, language and culture “The Russian World” as cultural and political project Ukrainian Topics in post-Soviet Russia Ukraine as a subject. Responses to the Polish and Russian intellectual challenges Holodomor and Holocaust in Ukrainian Culture and Memory Language Debates in Ukraine and their international dimension Locating itself “in between” at a local level: Examples from Odessa, Dnipropetrovsk and L`viv Reading materials could include German and Russian language texts. Films will be shown in original versions (Polish, Russian and Ukrainian) with English subtitles. Every lecture will be provided with Power Point presentation and Reccomended reading. |
