| Inhalt | This course seeks to provide an introduction and deeper understanding for the role of emotions and affect in social sciences. By and large, the primacy of rationality has neglected emotions and affect in the social sciences, although an increasing interest in emotion and affect theories are posing important challenges on basic assumptions of social movement theories. This seminar will focus on the literature of social movements and mobilations and explore, how the discussion of emotions and affect enrichens our understandings of new protest movements. In recent years, it is notable that the occupation of squares has become a global form of protest, often leading to new formations of solidarity and collectivity on the squares. The seminar will focus on the Tahrir Protests in Egypt (2011) and the Taksim Protests in 2013 as examples for ocucpations of the square which paved the way for new social and political relations and collective actions. |
