| Inhalt | In a 2012 speech entitled 'Inequality and Environmental Policy', the Nobel economist Joseph Stiglitz already stated that there is "a two-way relationship between environment and inequality. So while environmental degradation contributes to inequality, inequality can also contribute to environmental degradation". In this course, we will engage with global cultural representations of the link between inequality and ecological crises and explore literary, poetic, dramatic and artistic interventions in complex discourses including biodiversity loss, 'buen vivir', carbon inequality, environmental justice, overconsumption, social-ecological transformations and water politics. |
| Lernziele | Students will be familiarised with key concepts and theories from environmental and energy humanities and their application to transnational narratives of ecological inequality. |
| Literatur | Students should acquire the following texts: Helon Habila, "Oil on Water" (2010) Barbara Kingsolver, "Flight Behavior" (2012) Saumya Roy, "Mountain Tales. Love and Loss in the Municipality of Castaway Belongings" (2021). Theoretical and additional primary texts will be made available on ADAM. |
