52325-01 - Vorlesung: Molecular Basics of Tumours in Humans - Detection to Treatment I 1 KP

Semester Herbstsemester 2022
Angebotsmuster Jedes Herbstsemester
Dozierende Ellen C. Obermann (ellen.obermann@unibas.ch, BeurteilerIn)
Inhalt This series of lectures will give a systematic overview of cancer in humans. The first part of the course will be introducing and discussing general aspects of neoplastic diseases – definition, epidemiology, prevention, detection, carcinogens, and hereditary tumour syndromes.

The second part of the course will focus on the most important tumour entities such as breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and colon cancer. Each lecture will be dedicated to a specific tumour entity. These lectures will discuss the unique characteristics of the disease on the one hand, while on the other hand, a unique molecular aspect with its relevance for detection, prevention or treatment of this tumour entity will be highlighted. In addition, participants will learn basics about the clinical side of cancer (e.g. cancer screening programs worldwide and in Switzerland, radiotherapeutics, types of chemotherapy and tumour surgery). This course will therefore cover both general clinical aspects and cutting edge novel aspects which are relevant for the understanding of neoplastic disease in humans.
Lernziele Participants will gain knowledge in overall aspects of malignant neoplasms in humans. Basic knowledge on the clinical aspects of cancer will be gained, while the characteristic biological/molecular features of the most common types of cancer and their impact on prevention/diagnostics/treatment will be conveyed.
Literatur Relevant literature will be sent to the participants by email prior to the lecture series.

Teilnahmebedingungen An interest in all aspects of cancer in humans – i.e. both the biological/molecular side as well as general topics such as epidemiology, prevention, treatment is required.
Participants will have to participate actively during the course (discussions, analysis of literature etc.).
Participants are kindly requested to register their attendance until 15.10.2022 by email to ellen.obermann@unibas.ch.
