Inhalt Background
During a university curriculum or professional schools, there are few opportunities to engage in a deeper understanding of the role of practical wisdom, the meaning of professionalism and the nature of ethical reflections as they relate to medicine and health care. There is often little time dedicated to fully integrating these concepts in the identity formation of future professionals in health sciences or other sectors and reflecting on the purpose and calling of being a (health) care professionals. Professional character traits and moral identity are required for the (health) care professional to practice effectively with confidence, integrity, and high ethical standards as a member of the interprofessional health care team in the delivery of patient- or client-centered (health) care. Through this course, students will learn of the concept of practical wisdom (phronesis). Practical wisdom requires the cultivation of self-awareness; moral sensitivity and moral courage; empathy and compassion; appreciation for the diverse perspectives, roles and responsibilities of other (health) professionals; and tools of critical reflection and analysis in responding to these issues. The design of this course is intended to encourage and support both the individual journey of the students as well as the collective experience of learning with, from, and about others also engaging in this process.

Course Description
This course will offer learners the opportunity to examine in depth the nature of professional character development and ethical practice in an interprofessional delivery format. Topic areas emphasize the moral dimensions of professional identity formation and ethical decision-making. In-class activities include targeted interprofessional discussions and interprofessional application exercises to engage students in learning with, from, and about one another in the context of responding to intractable issues in the delivery of (health) care services. Case studies are used to introduce and examine moral dilemmas in clinical practice and health care services delivery. Individual reflections on professional character facilitate the development of a virtues-based philosophy of professional practice.
Lernziele 1. Demonstrate the development of professional dispositions, attitudes, and values that support the application of practical wisdom (phronesis) in determining the goals of professional activities and means of attaining them.
2. Formulate a compassionate, virtues driven and justice-based response in collaboration with other learners to address intractable issues in the context of patient- or client-centered (health) care delivery.
