Inhalt - A lecture-seminar-workshop format will be used, (one hour lectures and two hours seminars).
- A number of advanced analytical procedures and discussions on their appropriateness relative to the various research designs will be introduced.
- Examples will be introduced that show the unique design features to be considered in the planning and stages of a study so that specific methods can be employed during the analysis.
- The course readings range from basic texts used in the first semester courses to more advanced readings and exercises.
- This is not a statistics course! The application of statistical procedures are discussed only where their inclusion is needed to understand a methodological procedure. In such situations, the conceptual meaning is emphasized rather than the calculation of statistical techniques.
Lernziele The course "research methods II" introduces the students to advanced quantitative research methods and mixed methods and builds on the first semester course. The general objectives of the course are to enhance student's research skills relevant for APNs, such as establishing evidence based practice, writing research proposals and assisting/ conducting research projects.

The students:
- Develop a common understanding of research terminology.
- Compare and contrast various research methods to identify their strengths, limitations, and appropriateness to answer the research question(s).
- Understand diagnostic testing principles, basic principles of validity and reliability in measurement, as well as the different phases of data collection and data management processes.
- Evaluate strengths and weaknesses of different measurement methods.
- Propose strategies for enhancing the strength of various quantitative research methods: designs, sampling methods, measurement, and data collection.
- Review quantitative research studies in a structured and comprehensive way.
- Understand the basic principles of mixed methods and reflect critically methods used in mixed methods research.

Bemerkungen - The quizzes will be completed at the start of the sessions (content of previous lecture/s is tested). Missed quizzes will be scored as 0 and calculated accordingly in the final course grade. The written exam will take place at the last lecture.
- Students will be responsible for completing exercises (individual and/or group work) and for participation in class discussions.
