| Inhalt | Although historically, anthropology almost by definition had no interest in state institutions and the relationship between state and society, this has changed dramatically. Anthropologists of recent decades have contributed to shedding highly innovative and insightful light on the ways in which states work, on the norms and values it (re)produces, and on the social practices and imaginaries that in turn produce state and statehood. These contributions are particularly relevant in an age which increasingly recognises that states across the globe are not homogenous, coherent, 'strong' entitities, but fragmented, fluid, and dynamic fields of power shaped and shaping distinct social practices - a more empirically grounded understanding which the term 'statehood' implies. The objective of this seminar is to flesh out anthropological approaches to the state and statehood that have significantly contributed to the knowledge on and understanding of states, and to tie these to case-based discussions. |

| Teilnahmebedingungen | Die Anzahl Plätze ist auf 30 TeilnehmerInnen beschränkt. Die Plätze werden nach Anmeldedatum und Studienfachzugehörigkeit vergeben. Die Anmeldung erfolgt über ISIS. Teilnahmevoraussetzungen für Bachelor-Studierende der Ethnologie: Alle Veranstaltungen der Module "Einführung in die Ethnologie" und "Grundlagen der Ethnologie" (mit Ausnahme des Tutorats/studentische Eigenleistung) sowie ein Regionalkurs müssen mit Erfolg bestanden und die drei Proseminararbeiten mit PASS bewertet worden sein. |
