| Inhalt | Contents part 1 (Beck) 1. Macroecology and biogeography 2. Basic patterns and concepts 3. Species richness gradients 4. Island biogeography 5. Biological invasions 6. Ecological null models 7. The metabolic theory of ecology 8. Humans and the distribution of living things Contents part 2 (Loader) The course will outline the main developments and controversies in this subject both before and after revolutions in our understanding of plate tectonics, cladistics, and molecular sys-tematics. Topics covered in this part of the course include: 1. History of biogeography 2. Concepts in Biogeography and Systematics 3. Reconstructing biogeographic histories using distribution data and phylogenies 4. Temporal Component of Biogeography. |
| Lernziele | The aim of the lecture is to give advanced students an overview over research in the two main lines of current biogeographic research, namely Macroecology and Biodiversity (part 1) and Historical Biogeography (part 2). A focus will be on presenting and discussing recent research contributions. |
