Inhalt The course will be based around the following themes:
1. Trust in corporations: What do we mean by trust and why is it important?
2. Do citizens and civil society have trust in corporations?
3. Conceptualizing the role of the corporation in society: are corporations’ responsibilities only to their shareholders?
4. What do we mean by corporate social responsibility, corporate responsibility, and sustainability? And is conceptual harmony important or necessary?
5. Corporate responsibility, globalization and multinational corporations.
6. Representations of corporate responsibility: a cross-cultural comparison.
7. Critiques of corporate responsibility
8. How do civil society organizations and political actors interact with corporations on the issue of corporate responsibility?
9. Linking corporate responsibility and business performance.
10. Corporate responsibility: future scenarios over the next 50 years.
If students are interested in particular topics or themes that are not currently covered, they are encouraged to suggest these for inclusion.
Lernziele Students
- have developed their knowledge about the relationship between corporations and wider society: citizens, governments and politicians, and consumers.
- have explored literature from across the social sciences that discuss the role of the corporation and its place in achieving sustainable development.
Literatur The following books are suggested as background reading, but a Reader will be provided for the students shortly before the course begins.
