34978-01 - Forschungsseminar: Articulation, Visibility and Difference: Tropes in Anthropological Research 3 KP

Semester Herbstsemester 2013
Angebotsmuster einmalig
Dozierende Till Förster (till.foerster@unibas.ch, BeurteilerIn)
Inhalt This seminar is to some extent an extension of last semester’s seminar of participation. While participation as a heuristic and theoretical concept looks more at how people live the social, articulation focuses more on how they generate the social from their own point of view – though having the other in mind. Articulation is also a concept that has been used in many disciplines and fields of anthropology. The seminar hence starts with an examination of the concept’s use in discourse theory as well as in the history of the social sciences and of social anthropology in particular. In the second part, it addresses some general theoretical problems and finally, it attempts to look at how articulation can be used to orient research towards a more comprehensive understanding of how actors situate themselves in the social and political domain.
Lernziele The students will learn how to work with a theoretical concept and how to translate it into a reflected approach for empirical research.
