| Inhalt | This seminar seeks to flesh out the seemingly obvious connection between corruption and conflict in African cities. Urbanisation is a phenomenon shaping more and more people's lives in Africa, and corruption is a pervasive feature of urban life in Africa. What does this mean for the lives of urban dwellers? More particularly, what does this mean for the social problems pertinent to urban spaces, and to collective practices addressing such social problems? In what way does corruption serve to include citizens into social, political and economic spaces? And how does exclusion lead to greater instability and volatility on a local and national level? |
| Lernziele | At the end of term, you should have a discerning understanding of urban life in Africa, forms of social and political articulation, and undertaken a critical engagement with current practices and meanings of corruption and conflict. |
