| Inhalt | The seminar offers an advanced introduction into the sociology of disasters. It discusses the place and role of the concept of disasters within sociology and how it has been shaped by, and itself shaped sociological theorising about the social world. Furthermore, the course explores the relationship of the sociology of disasters to risk sociology, science and technology studies as well as development sociology. |
| Lernziele | Students will acquire knowledge of the origins and development of the sociology of disasters; Students will acquaint themselves with key theories and concepts in the sociology of disasters; Students will acquire skills in formulating problems and questions within the framework of the sociology of disasters; Students will develop their ability to apply theories and concepts in the sociology of disasters to phenomena in Africa. |
