| Inhalt | This course provides an overview of the intersection between psychology and the legal system, covering a broad range of forensically relevant issues. Topics will include false memories, false confessions, eyewitness testimony and reliability, decision making by the judge and jury, criminal profiling and the role of neuroscience in a legal setting. The course is concerned with the contributions of psychological science to the understanding of issues frequently dealt with by the legal system. For example, what has psychological science discovered about why people sometimes make false confessions? And what has it discovered about the trustworthiness of the identification of a suspect by an eyewitness? Also, how do individuals perceive and utilise evidence and arguments presented in court? |
| Lernziele | Obtain a general understanding of the contributions of psychological science to the challenges faced in legal settings. |
| Bemerkungen | Attendance is mandatory and students cannot miss more than two sessions, otherwise they automatically fail. |
| Teilnahmebedingungen | Bestandenes Basisstudium/ bestandenes Propädeutikum. |
| Anmeldung zur Lehrveranstaltung | Das Anmeldeverfahren für die Seminare ist an das Belegen gekoppelt. Das heisst, es läuft über MOnA. Das Belegen der Seminare ist möglich ab dem 01. Januar 2016. Anmeldefrist ist der 19. Januar 2016. Vom 20. Januar bis 02. Februar 2016 werden die Dozierenden die Einteilung zu den Seminaren vornehmen und die Studierenden betreffend Einteilung informieren. Im Anschluss besteht die Möglichkeit, nach Absprache mit den Dozenten, weitere Seminare zu belegen. |

| Hinweise zur Leistungsüberprüfung | Throughout the semester, students will give presentations (alone or in groups) on a specific topic. Furthermore, students will be tasked with organising the discussion session following their presentation and to encourage the class to think critically about the issues presented. |
