| Inhalt | The foucauldian concepts of Governmentality and Biopolitics have experienced a huge success in the fields of Philosophy and Social Sciences in the last years. However, as much as its theoretical definition, its analytical and empirical application possibilities are far from being clear and shared. In this sense, the purpose of the this seminar will be to work out a clear definition of these concepts on the basis of the work of Michel Foucault, in order to offer a method of analysis applicable to a contemporary historical context. To do this, and in the first place, we will map an overview of the work of Foucault, starting with some brief notes on his biography and theoretical influences. After that, we will review his major works, paying special attention to the aspects more directly connected with the contemporary discussions and issues of Social Anthropology. Than we will try to frame a clear definition of the concepts of Governmentality and Biopolitics, by connecting them with a methodological apparatus capable of applying them to a concrete historical reality and social context. At this point, we can have a look on Governmentality and Biopolitics of Spain under the regime of Franco (from 1939 to 1975) as an example of empirical application of the methodological apparatus proposed. Finally, and in the form of a workshop/discussion, we will work with a “schematic biopolitical analysis” of different social context, decided by consensus among the participants, in order to apply the analytical concepts and methodological approach presented and discussed in the seminar. |

| Teilnahmebedingungen | Beginners and Advanced Students. The Seminar will be carried out in English. The students should communicate if they are able to read French. Die Teilnehmerzahl ist aus Gründen der Qualitätssicherung der Lehre auf 25 beschränkt. Die Teilnehmenden werden nach Fachrichtung, Studiengang und in der Reihenfolge ihrer Anmeldung auf die Liste gesetzt. Wer im Rahmen von Auslandaufenthalten und von Austauschprogrammen in Basel studiert wird unabhängig vom Listenplatz immer aufgenommen. |
| Anmeldung zur Lehrveranstaltung | Lehrveranstaltungen mit beschränkter Teilnehmerzahl können ab 01.08.2016 bis 01.09.2016 über MOnA belegt werden. Die Zuteilung erfolgt durch die Dozierenden. Bis 12.09.2016 erhalten alle definitiv aufgenommenen Studierenden eine Bestätigungsmail des Dozierenden. Wer an der ersten Sitzung einer Veranstaltung dennoch unentschuldigt fehlt, wird von der Liste gestrichen. In der ersten Sitzung einer Veranstaltung oder per Mail in der Woche der ersten Sitzung erfahren Studierende auf einer Warteposition, ob sie doch teilnehmen können. |
