Inhalt | This seminar familiarizes participants with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly in relation to the conceptualizations of sustainability embedded therein, global developments that gave rise to the agenda, the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), as well as its associated targets. We will explore the relevance of this agenda from a global as well as a local, i.e. Western European, Swiss, and Basel, perspective. At the end of the course, participants will understand the scope and content of Agenda 2030, the translational work associated therewith to make it suitable for multiple national, geographic, social, and economic contexts, the opportunities and risks associated with it, and some of the counterarguments raised against it from an economic, political, and post-colonial perspective. Each session will be dedicated to the discussion of one of the UN SDGs, its association with other UN SDGs, its significance to global sustainability, as well as its relevance for course participants locally and personally. |
