19760-01 - Seminar: Interdisziplinäre Analysen zu European Global Studies 6 KP

Semester Frühjahrsemester 2018
Angebotsmuster Jedes Frühjahrsem.
Dozierende Laurent Goetschel (laurent.goetschel@unibas.ch)
Christa Tobler (christa.tobler@unibas.ch)
Rolf Weder (rolf.weder@unibas.ch, BeurteilerIn)
Inhalt The seminar combines political science, law and economics as a social science. We expect an analysis of a question in the area of European Integration or Globalization from mainly the perspective of one of the three disciplines and based on a clear methodological foundation. Nevertheless, students should explain at the beginning and/or at the end of the paper which aspects of other disciplines have not been taken into account and in which way these perspectives might have been fruitful for the analysis.
Lernziele The seminar should prepare students for writing a master thesis and also give them an opportunity to engage in an inter- or multidisciplinary dialogue in the broad area of European Global Studies.
Literatur We are, in principle, open to any topic which students would like to deal with. You are strongly encouraged to identify a topic for your paper on your own. Questions that have been raised or left open in courses offered by us or by colleagues teaching in the Master of European Global Studies may provide a good starting point to develop a research proposal.
Bemerkungen The presentations and discussions will be held in the spring term 2018 (April 2018). We hope to be able to communicate the dates in January 2018.

More information on the paper and presentation can be found on ADAM.

Teilnahmebedingungen The seminar is open to all students in the Master of Arts in European Studies or the Master of Arts in European Global Studies who have completed at least one semester within these programs. Students who start their studies in the Spring semester 2018 are not eligible for admission.
Anmeldung zur Lehrveranstaltung The number of participants is limited to approximately 30 students. The allocation of the limited space is based on the quality of submitted research proposals.

In order to apply for the seminar, please send a research proposal to Dragan Filimonovic (dragan.filimonovic@unibas.ch) no later than January 20, 2018. Approximately two weeks after the deadline, students will receive a feedback from one of us (Laurent Goetschel, Christa Tobler or Rolf Weder) whether the topic is accepted or not. Students admitted to the seminar will also receive comments on how to improve their project. A positive feedback means that a student is registered for the seminar and that he/she can start writing the paper. At that point, it is no longer possible to withdraw from the seminar. Students should then enroll for the seminar in MOnA of the University of Basel by themselves.

The research proposal: Please describe your proposal on 2 pages (not more), elaborating on the following topics:
1 Title
2 Motivation (why is the topic interesting and relevant?)
3 Research question (which questions(s) do you intend to answer, what is the aim of the paper and in which discipline is your proposal mainly rooted?)
4 Methodology (what method do you intend to use to analyze your question?)
5 Literature (provide 2-3 sources you intend to use)
6 Table of Content
Please note that the proposal should also contain your name and surname, matriculation number and the acquired ECTS points in the Master of European (Global) Studies up to January 20.

Proposals that are handed in after January 20, 2018 can only be considered if the seminar is not full. In other words, we will consider proposals handed in after January 20 if the seminar is not full and give feedback within approximately 2 weeks. Note that this reduces, however, the time students have to write the paper. As soon as the seminar is full, we will make this public here in the Vorlesungsverzeichnis.
