Inhalt | The special theme of the seminar in FS 2020 will be “POLITICAL INTEGRATION”. We especially welcome papers on the following topics: - Brexit and its Consequences - Allocation of competences between the European Union and its members - Harmonization versus mutual recognition of regulations - The subsidiarity principle in the European Union - Sovereignty and supranational integration - Allocation of (voting-)power in the European Union - More centralization or decentralization or both for the European Union? - Law without Borders: The Harmonization of Procedures and Principles - Trade policy of the European Union and the European Free Trade Association - The Alternatives to EU Membership - Migration in the Context of (Dis)Integration - The Link Between Regional and Global Integration - The common agricultural policy (CAP) in the European Union The seminar has also an open part which means that it is open to any other topic which students would like to deal with. Questions that have been raised or left open in courses offered by us or by colleagues teaching in the Master of European Global Studies may provide a good starting point to develop a research proposal. |
Lernziele | The seminar should prepare students for writing a master thesis and also give them an opportunity to engage in an inter- or multidisciplinary dialogue in the broad area of European Global Studies. |
Bemerkungen | More information on the paper and presentation can be found on ADAM. As Prof. Christa Tobler is on Sabbatical, she is represented by Sebastian Meyer (Tobler's PhD Student in Law) As Prof. Rolf Weder is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics, he will be supported by Dr. Beat Spirig (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Fakultät und Ko-Autor von Rolf Weder) in the assessment of the research proposals and the papers. |

Teilnahmevoraussetzungen | The seminar is open to all students in the Master of Arts in European Global Studies who have completed at least one semester within the program. Students who start their studies in the Spring Semester 2019 are not eligible for admission. The number of participants is limited to approximately 30 students. The allocation of the limited space is based on the quality of submitted research proposals. |
Anmeldung zur Lehrveranstaltung | In order to apply for the seminar, please send a research proposal to Dragan Filimonovic (dragan.filimonovic@unibas.ch) no later than February 7, 2020. Approximately two weeks after the deadline, students will receive a feedback from one of us (Laurent Goetschel, Sebastian Meyer and Rolf Weder/Beat Spirig) whether the topic is accepted or not. Students admitted to the seminar will also receive comments on how to improve their project. A positive feedback means that a student is registered and that he/she can start writing the paper. At that point, it is no longer possible to withdraw from the seminar. Students should then enroll for the seminar in MOnA of the University of Basel by themselves. |
