| Inhalt | What is science? What are the foundations for scientific knowledge, scientific facts and scientific evidence? How do social conditions shape technology? How are resources allocated for scientific research? Who owns the knowledge produced in research projects? How do science and technology change over time? What is a scientific controversy? What is the role of science in ‘post-truth’ politics? The course introduces students to various analytical approaches to these questions, including the sociology, history, philosophy, economics, anthropology and politics of science. Students are acquainted with the interdisciplinary field of Science & Technology Studies (STS) to explore the many ways in which science and technology influence our daily lives. This course invites students to participate from any background in the humanities, the social sciences, and the natural sciences. |
| Lernziele | Students - will be introduced to the major ideas and introductory texts in the field of Science & Technology Studies (STS); - will study questions and analytical approaches to science as practiced in different disciplinary traditions; - will learn to respond to critical questions relevant to their own scientific field of study. |
