| Inhalt | Although women make more than half of the world’s population, they are still significantly underrepresented in political institutions. This seminar examines current studies in political and gender studies concerning this underrepresentation of women and tackles the following four questions: (1) Why are women (still) underrepresented in politics? (2) Which factors affect the representation of women in political institutions? (3) Does it make a difference whether women are represented in parliament? (4) What are the policy-consequences of a fairer representation of women in political institutions? These questions will be analyzed in a comparative perspective. Based on theories of representation and gender studies, we will study empirical-analytical approaches to find answers to the above-mentioned questions. |
