| Inhalt | «Postcolonial Switzerland» has become a catchword to summarize debates over Switzerland’s colonial legacy. Parts of this heritage are visible in Swiss museums that display objects from “exotic” regions of the globe and construct a specific image of the colonial “Other”. In this course, we first engage with several core texts on postcolonial Switzerland and the museum landscape to then study concrete displays of “Africa”/the "Global South" in the Bernisches Historisches Museum as well as objects from Africa that are stored away in repositories. We will also consult with museum staff to obtain insights into the ways in which issues of representation and recent restitution claims are currently being negotiated within these institutions. The course consists of two blocks: 1) Online discussion of prepared texts, Friday, 9 April, 9-14:00 2) Excursion to Bernisches Historisches Museum, Berne, Friday, 30 April, 9-15:00 |

| Bemerkungen | The first part of this course will be held via Zoom; the excursion to Berne on 30 April will be switched to a digital format if the pandemic situation does not permit a physical meeting. |
