| Inhalt | Work is the primary mode of societies’ “metabolism” with nature. Through work, we transform our environment, we extract natural resources and we reproduce our society and its environment. Against this backdrop, climate change and the broader ecological crisis raises various sociological questions: Is the ecological crisis also a crisis of work? How can we conceptualize the relationship between work and nature? Does our organization of work contribute to the ecological crisis? What role does work play in a social transformation towards sustainability? The course will pursue these questions by discussing classical and current texts on the relationship between work and nature. |
| Lernziele | Students will acquire knowledge of sociological concepts for understanding the relationship between work and nature. They will learn to reflect critically on these concepts and will discuss the relationship of the ecological crisis to the social organization of work. |

| Bemerkungen | Depending on the pandemic situation the course might be taught online |
| Teilnahmebedingungen | The course requires prior knowledge of basic sociological concepts and is therefore recommended not to be taken before the third semester of studies in social sciences. |
