Inhalt The focus is on expected utility theory, which provides a coherent framework to model and analyse behavior when the consequences of decisions are uncertain. The course begins by developing the foundations of expected utility theory and its use in describing, measuring and comparing risk aversion. Subsequently, applications to financial and insurance decisions are considered. Problems with and extensions of the theory are also discussed.

Concepts: Risk, lotteries, preferences, (expected) utility, risk aversion, first order and second order stochastic dominance, mean preserving spread, certainty equivalence, risk premium, coefficients of absolute and relative risk aversion, insurance demand, portfolio choice, information structures, Bayesian updating,

Methods: Basic Probability, calculus and optimization
Lernziele Familiarity with the main issues, tools, and results in the microeconomic analysis of decision making under uncertainty.on a basic level.
Literatur There is no required textbook. References to relevant readings will be given in the syllabus posted on ADAM.

 

Teilnahmebedingungen No more ECTS may be earned with this lecture if the course 31960 Microeconomics and Psychology of Decision Making has already been successfully completed.
