Inhalt | The course seeks to unravel some of the tangled associations and uses of the phenomenon "corruption". Corruption and the prevention of corruption have become key issues in development theories and policies, linking high levels of corruption directly to low levels and opportunities for development. This theoretical and practical interest in corruption has (re-)emerged relatively recently, and is connected to very specific ways of "seeing the (developmental) state", i.e. ways of projecting and explaining social, political and economic trajectories of societies. The core interest of this course lies in understanding practices and types of corruption both in Northern and Southern countries, seeking interdependencies between these practices and overarching national and international structures, and exploring the implications for development through a critical discussion of current anti-corruption development policies. |
