Inhalt The course covers the most important issues of arbitration such as the basic principles, arbitration agreement and jurisdiction of arbitral tribunal, the arbitral tribunal, the arbitral procedure, the arbitral award, setting aside proceedings, recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards. The focus is on international arbitration as it is practiced in Switzerland. The course follows the textbook "International Arbitration in Switzerland", DANIEL GIRSBERGER/NATHALIE VOSER, literaB, Schulthess 2008, and will also resolve the practical case in this textbook. A syllabus with a reading list will be available on the website. The reading of the documents mentioned on the reading list for each week is compulsory. The documents will be uploaded on the website or handed out to the students during the lecture.
Lernziele At the end of this lecture each participant should be able to understand and know the principles of domestic and international commercial arbitration in Switzerland. Participants should be able to represent parties in arbitral procedure. The lecture is also an ideal basis for the participation at the VIS Moot Court in Vienna which takes place every spring.

Bemerkungen This course reflects the growing relevance of international arbitration as an alternative to court proceedings in today’s international business world. Since international arbitration procedures are to a great majority conducted in English, this course will be in English.
