Hinweise zur Leistungsüberprüfung The seminar is graded. Regular attendance, active participation in discussions, talk, and written report are requested. For further details see ‚Accredibility and Requirements’.

The seminar on Applied Topics in Biogeography (former Biogeographical Literature Seminar II (3CPs)) is designed for advanced students. It is primarily offered to MSc students in geosciences, environmental geosciences and geography. The seminar is also suitable for students of other curricula, such as MSc in Biology, Master in Sustainable Development or MA African Studies (please inquire with peter.nagel@unibas.ch, jan.beck@unibas.ch, or stefanie.vonfumetti@unibas.ch).
Participants give a 45 minute talk, using suitable media support (e.g. PowerPoint slides), and provide a handout (incl. summary) of their talk of 2 – 3 pages to the audience (to be distributed physically or sent by email to the participants and the lecturer one week before the talk). Extent and content of the talk and its written version (see below) is discussed prior to the talk during an appointment with the lecturer leading the seminar. Students provide a written report of their talk (15 – 30 pages), which has to be submitted four weeks after the presentation at the latest. Sufficient consideration of literature of original research is particularly requested for this report.
