| Inhalt | In this course, we will study two books each by contemporary poets Claudia Rankine and Vahni Capildeo. These books, especially Rankine's "Citizen: An American Lyric", are some of the most extraordinary Anglophone writing of the 21st century. Each of them blurs the distinctions between genres (poetry, essay, short stories) as a means of exploring race, gender, and culture in the contemporary world. This promises to be an especially exciting course. |

| Literatur | The following books are required for the course: Claudia Rankine, "Citizen: An American Lyric" Penguin 978-0141981772 Claudia Rankine, "Don't Let Me Be Lonely: An American Lyric" Penguin 978-0141984179 (to be published February 2017) Vahni Capildeo, "Measures of Expatriation" Carcanet 978-1784101688 Vahni Capildeo, "No Traveller Returns" Salt 978-1876857882 Students should purchase copies of the books before the first session of the course. Copies will be available at the Labyrinth bookstore, Nadelberg 17, Basel. A course pack of secondary literature will be provided. |
