Inhalt The target is to give master students an opportunity to write an own paper in English (that may be considered to be a first step towards the master’s thesis), to present the conclusions to an international audience of researchers at Georgetown University and New York University and discuss the results.

This mini conference allows to establish contacts with professors and students at Georgetown University and New York University and is also embedded in a program that includes visits to and discussions with high-level representatives of well-known institutions in Washington DC (e.g., IMF, Worldbank, Peterson Institute, Cato Institute, Department of Justice, Swiss Embassy) and possibly in New York (UN).

Lernziele 1) Applying theories and knowledge to a concrete question in the area of Law, Business and Economics.
2) Understanding differences in regulations, economic policies, behaviour of agents and institutions between the United States, Europe and/or Switzerland.
3) Presenting the insights of the research to an audience at highly competitive universities in the U.S.
4) Reflecting the own and others' research in discussions with representatives of international organizations in Washington DC and New York.
Literatur Will be discussed individually with the students depending on their topic.
Bemerkungen Apply by July 1 of each year at the Summer School of Law, Business and Economic Policy.

Teilnahmebedingungen Students have to be part of the Master of Science of Business and Economics at the University of Basel. Exceptions for students on the Master or PhD level of other programmes or disciplines are possible if students have enough knowledge in economics.
Anmeldung zur Lehrveranstaltung This seminar is for the students who successfully have been admitted to the seminar in summer of the preceeding year and have handed in a seminar paper by the end of the preceeding year.

Application deadline for the seminar in the spring term is always Summer (July 1) of the preceeding year at the Summer School of Law, Business and Economic Policy.
