| Inhalt | Foreign Policy Analysis is a sub-field of international relations that has received increased attention since the end of the Cold War. Like most sub-fields in political science and international relations, foreign policy analysis is a multi-faceted mix of approaches from international relations and comparative politics. We will ‘open the black box’ of the state to seek explanations for specific behaviours and decision in foreign policy making. In this way we will acquaint ourselves with topics such as leadership, group dynamics, bureaucratic politics, institutional constraints on government, public opinion and the media and draw on theories of human and behavior in social psychology, organizational behavior, economics and sociology. In the course we debate leading theoretical approaches to the study of foreign policy across a range of states and issue areas. The goal of the course is to prepare students to both critically evaluate the theoretical literature on foreign policy and to conduct their own research. We will investigate the influence of international environment, elite decision-making and psychology and domestic factors. |
