| Inhalt | This course offers an introduction to the study of literature. Details will be announced at the beginning of term. |
| Lernziele | Students will acquire the methodological tools necessary for the analysis of literary texts. The course will focus on the three main genres of fiction (poetry, prose and drama) and introduce students to important periods in literary history (Early Modernism, Romanticism, Modernism, Postmodernism). In addition, students will become acquainted with the basics of film analysis. They will also learn how to conduct research and how to engage in academic discourse. |
| Literatur | - William Shakespeare, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (London: Arden, 2nd Series, 2006) - Emily Bronte, "Wuthering Heights," Penguin Classics (London: Penguin, 2003) - "The Big Lebowski". Dir. Joel Coen. DVD/Blu-ray Please note specific editions! Books will be available for purchase from Labyrinth (Nadelberg 17), and should be purchased during the first week of classes. All further texts will be made available on ADAM. The film will be screened during term-time. |

As places are limited for each section, students are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible to secure their preferred time slot! Note: once a section is fully booked, you will need to sign up for one of the alternative sections. Please ensure that you have only registered for ONE of the parallel sections: students registered to more than one section will be allocated to one of the sections by the instructors on September 8. |
