| Inhalt | This course provides an introduction to the central topics in the sociology of health. The course is divided into four units. The first unit, social dimensions of health and illness, examines social dimensions of individuals’ experience of health and illness, including an examination of the social determinants of health and of the social construction of health and illness. The second unit, the practice of medicine, focuses on social relations in medical settings, including the organization of health care systems and relations between doctors, patients and other healthcare professionals. The third unit, social and cultural experiences of health, focuses on lay individuals experiences related to health. Finally, the fourth unit focuses on global health and development, focuses on the health implications of globalization and global efforts on health. |
