| Inhalt | This seminar will equip students with the basic tools required for sociolinguistic fieldwork. We will look at how established sociolinguists have conducted their research, and how they have addressed the problems that go hand in hand with trying to elicit socially-conditioned linguistic features. We will look at important components of fieldwork, such as the preliminary research design, question phrasing, interview techniques, and much more. | Lernziele | Students will learn to identify sociolinguistic phenomena worthy of interest, to formulate research questions and testable hypotheses, and to elaborate adequate research plans. They will also learn how to interact with informants and how to phrase relevant questionnaires. |
