| Inhalt | From the release of "Star Wars" (later subtitled "Episode IV: A New Hope") in 1977 the ever-expanding Star Wars franchise has captivated the minds and hearts of generations of viewers, readers, and gamers around the globe. With quotable phrases like "I am your father" and its particular mix of SciFi, fairy tale, and fantasy elements, action, and Eastern mysticism, the Star Wars universe has also provided a goldmine for those who own its intellectual property rights. In this course we will discuss the films in the original trilogy from different critical perspectives, before turning our gaze to Star Wars as a franchise that has branched out over time into countless media and ancillary products. |
| Lernziele | In this course students will examine the films in the "Star Wars" universe on their own, as well as in the context of the "Star Wars" franchise. They will learn about the transformation of the American entertainment industry, as well as its audience in the last four decades, and familiarize themselves with aspects like changing economic, media, and industry structures to fan participation and the transformation of audiences that play a role in a cultural materialist analysis of popular culture. |
