55624-01 - Seminar: Learning English through bilingual education: Policies, practices, and perspectives 3 KP

Semester Herbstsemester 2019
Angebotsmuster einmalig
Dozierende Aline Bieri (aline.bieri@unibas.ch, BeurteilerIn)
Inhalt With English having become THE international language, it is not surprising that innovative educational programmes such as Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) that foster simultaneous learning of content and language are increasing in number and in diversity around the globe. In this seminar we will look at different approaches to the study of such bilingual programmes: from critically evaluating the policies that drive the implementation of such programmes, to analysing actual language use in these classrooms to invesitaging the role of participants’ and stakeholders’ views in a particular programme. We will discuss how these aspects intersect and may differ from one context to another, while always keeping a particular emphasis on the situation in Switzerland.
Lernziele At the end of the course, students should be able to identify the advantages and disadvantages of the different approaches to the study of bilingual educational programmes discussed in the seminar. They should be familiar with basic factors that drive the implementation of such programmes across contexts, and be able to analyse samples of different types of data connected to bilingual education research.
Literatur Will be made available on ADAM.
