| Inhalt | The socialist economic and societal model was and is attractive for many developing countries. Despite the enormous humanitarian consequences, the economic rise of the Soviet Union since 1917 and of the People's Republic of China since 1949 has been observed and admired worldwide. Since imperialism and capitalism often went hand in hand in the exploitation of the colonies, various liberation movements of the global South were interested in the socialist alternative and tried to implement it after the independence of their countries. The seminar will take a closer look at some of the experiments with socialist economics and social politics in countries of the so-called "Third World" in Asia, Africa and Latin America. The seminar will examine the shaping implementation of socialist ideas, the specific conditions in post-colonial societies, and international exchange processes. Particular attention is paid to the interpretation of such socialist experiments in the global discourse on "development". The students gain insight into ongoing debates on global history, postcolonialism and development policy. |

| Teilnahmebedingungen | Für Masterstudierende und fortgeschrittene Bachelorstudierende der Geschichte mit abgeschlossener Grundstufe (Nachweis von drei Proseminaren und den drei obligatorischen Proseminararbeiten). Bei Überbelegung kann die Teilnehmerzahl beschränkt werden. In diesem Fall werden Studierende der Geschichte bevorzugt zugelassen. |
