Inhalt | This course introduces students to the major topics in international macroeconomics and finance. The main focus is on international interdependence: of economic and financial activity; of goods and asset prices; and of economic policies. After reviewing the key determinants of external variables (terms of trade, exchange rate, current account, capital flows etc.), and how these variables affect domestic allocations (output, employment, inflation, asset prices), we will address the question of how economic policy can improve economic outcomes. Furthermore, we will discuss how economic and financial crises can emerge, and which policies can either prevent them or can at least mitigate their consequences. Finally, students will learn how to set up, solve, and analyze a simple 2-country (DSGE) model using a computer. |
