Inhalt | This course is designed to introduce students to "how to do economic research." Some class time will focus on topics such as bibliographic methods, data analysis, and economic modeling, but most of the effort will be involved in individual feedback for developing research papers. Students that currently develop a research paper idea learn how to formulate research questions and how they can develop a polished research paper from their projects. PhD students at any stage of their doctoral studies are welcome as long as they have a specific idea for a research project that they can present. Postdocs are also welcome. Students who have participated in a previous year already, are welcome as well but credits will only be awarded once. The course consists of roughly two parts: 1) June 16th: During the first hours of the lecture, the lecturer provides "research advice", on topics like how to formulate a research question, how to build a research agenda, how to choose projects, plus some practical advice on an economics career (submitting to journals, refereeing, etc). 2) June 17th-30th: Students prepare presentations of their research projects in advanceof the course and each student presents this project in class. Presenters will receive detailed feedback on both their research, as well as tips on presenting and framing research papers. Andrei Levchenko will give feedback to presentations related to trade, macro, finance, or related fields on June 17th. On June 18th and 19th, Nicolas Ziebarth will give feedback to presentations related to health economics, labour economics, microeconometric methods, and related fields with a focus on empirical research. On June 30th, Nicola Pavoni will give feedback to presentations related to economic theory in any field or more specifically macroeconomic theory, economics of information, public finance, consumption theory, labour economics and behavioural economics. Please state a preference for a feedback session (Levchenko, Pavoni or Ziebarth). We will send around a program once we have the final list of participants.
